The cab model
This model is used to create the internal textures for
the cab camera views.
All
the views from the cab are 'virtual', that is you can pan and tilt your
viewpoint whilst at the same time operate the footplate controls using
the mouse pointer.

External
shot of the locomotive
Note: Textures are yet to be applied to the tender.
The three lines going diagonally up and right are telegraph wires
(you can see the poles in the shot below).

Another
external shot
The locomotive approaches a signal set at 'caution'.

The detail on the wheels and running gear can be seen a little
better in this shot. The valve gear movement is pre-rendered
so as not to impact too much on the framerate.

The
standard cab 'out the window' view
As you switch to this view you face down the line, however
should you wish to adjust a control, or check a gauge....
.....you
pan the view around to the right, using either the mouse or
keyboard control (all are duplicated) .....

..... and as you do so
the cab comes into view, revealing all the
controls and dials ......

.......
which can be read or adjusted using the hand pointer (which
changes shape depending upon what it hovers over) .....

.......
in this instance the pressure gauge, the hand changes to a
'pointing' position and reveals the boiler pressure .....
.....
had the hand moved over a control, it would change shape to a
grasping fist, and the current setting for that control is displayed.

Switching to the internal can view, imagine you wished to alter
the amount of cut-off .....

....
moving the hand over the control it changes shape and then by
clicking and dragging the mouse the control is adjusted.
Also note that the controls are animated and
display their
current setting (in this case 59%) as they are moved.

Another view of the 'in the cab' camera, note that the camera can
be panned both up and down as well as side to side, so if you
wanted to watch the track-bed go past as you drive along ! ......
